The article about pride in resisting temptation in one of the recent Chizuk e-mails struck a chord in me. I've always had a thing about wanting my (real) father to be proud of me and, like most parent issues, I've transferred that onto Abba.

Today I was downloading a large stash of contraband, and towards the end was watching the progress, just waiting for it to finish, when the thought struck me to cancel the download right now. As usual, I argued to myself that I had already invested a fair amount of time in downloading it, and I should just let it finish so I could see what it contained. I could delete it immediately afterwards if I still wanted to.

Usually, I try to restrain myself with thoughts of how guilty I will feel afterwards and what a waste of time it all is, but this time I asked myself 'How proud would it make G-d if I turned it off right at the hardest moment?'

That worked. I clicked cancel, stopped the download and deleted the details from the download history. One tiny, positive step, but I'm proud of myself. And so is Abba.
