Rabbi schneur zalman of liadi, in his sefer HaTanya, vividly depicts the epic battle of the Beinuni, in which the beinuni must literally fight for his life - controlling his מחשבה דיבור ומעשה - thought speech and action, this battle accelerates at the time of prayer, but as the author adds, when the beinuni through his prayer reaches a level in which his Yetzer HaRah is nullified then כשזה קם זה נופל - when this one (i.e the yetzer Hatov) arises, this one (i.e the Yetzer Harah) falls.
this is the life of the beinuni, a life in which he is never really sure of his real standing, indeed this is the life of every man who lives in gods world, and it is only with gods infinite strength that it is in our power to win the present but never ending battle.
As the verse says "for the poor man (-the godly soul, who is compared to a poor man in this world, and who is directly connected to god) will stand to his right, to save him from the judges (- the Yetzer Harah an yetzer tov_ of his soul".
