It's probably time for me to change the tag line on my posts, but it seems to apply here, Oh Out-Rage-eous one.  Don't help me get (the wife) I want; help me want (the wife) I get. Or something like that. If that's too cheesy and greeting card-y, then just ignore it.

Exactly that it's too cheesy and your ignoring it? Or exactly you agree?

The whole thing boils down to "Guarding your Eyes" if they werent looking they wouldn't have found. But hey, I wish them much happiness together.

That story really is horrible...it's a perfect example of an addiction to selfishness, and a society built around that ideal. So much so that they make it seem beautiful.

And we watch their movies, read their books, live in their society.

Western society is inhaled and transferred to us by our being in its midst. and they have a corrupted view of life love and marriage. it is so important to educate ourselves with the correct perspective and definitions.

R' Akiva Tatz says in one of his shiurim about Israelis who grow up speaking Hebrew that when they hear the pasuk "וירא אלקים את כל אשר עשה והנה טוב מאוד" they start thinking about a grade-school teacher who is marking exams late at night and when she is tired and it's already getting late she is not giving "מצוין" anymore, just "טוב מאוד".....

I have also had talks about this with someone recently.  Sometimes a guy from GYE shows up at an SA meeting, and he is unwelcomed, because he doesn't have a "real" problem.

But, all those people who are spending more time with prostitutes than with their own wives, who have perhaps been kicked out of their homes and have lost custody of their children... WHAT WERE THEY DOING TEN YEARS BEFORE!

They were sitting in a locked room, looking at p*rn, and mast*rbating.  They were thinking, "I don't have a REAL problem.  I wouldn't ever get involved with a live woman."

What drove me to join this forum is because I was mast*rbating and looking at p*rn every so often, which I didn't think was all so evil, but I COULDN'T STOP!  And, even though I felt like I had been treading water for a couple of years, IF I COULDN'T STOP, SOME DAY, IT'S GOING TO EVENTUALLY GET WORSE.

I have done some step work for Dov's group.  And, for the first time I realize, even my looking at p*rn and Mast*rbating, as innocent as I thought it was, as much as I thought I was treading water, WAS, INDEED, PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE.  More often, more often.  The next red line was pulling me harder and harder.

AND, about meeting girls we have known from the past, I had a whole thread about this once.  I think it was Bardichev who put it so clearly--there's a big difference between you going out and trying to contact them, or if, for whatever the circumstances, you just happen to meet them [this isn't exactly a direct quote].

If the situation TRULY warrants it, and if we are focused on being helpful, if we aren't trying to TAKE, then we ought to be able to have a civil conversation with an attractive woman if necessary.  Plenty of fellows on this board probably have attractive co-workers, whom they need to speak with regularly.  They can't just bury their heads, keep their eyes on their shoes, and start mumbling to them.  And, if you're focused on being helpful, you don't have to start drueling over ever single woman just because you heard that somebody else does.

Maybe easier said than done, but not impossible.
