Question about Filters 21 Nov 2010 22:20 #86054

  • solidnow
I am new to this field. I am not prepared to install a heavy duty filter on my internet yet. I'm just not. I have to start slow or not at all.

I am looking for a very simple (preferably free) filter that will block out just the worst of the worst without logging any reports or anything like that.

Is there such a thing?

Yes, K9 will let you choose your setttings.

But, please strongly consider strengthening the settings in response to each setback.  And have someone else hold the password, otherwise, it's like having no filter at all.

yep, ideally make a difficult unmemorable password then quickly give it away to a 3rd party....

Be aware that unless you physically block all of youtube/google videos you will get un-tznius images in about two seconds flat.

i am a coward....however in an ideal world i would give it to my wife (but she hates every fibre of my being so that's not an option just now)

Thanks for the replies. I have tried K9 and I was sure that it keeps a log of websites or at least each time the block gets triggered. Am I wrong?

I think it does keep a log, but you would need the password and your computer to view it.

Personally, I just make a password up and then throw it away.  If I really need to change the settings, I need to request the password be emailed me.  Probably not the best system, but it works.

take it from me if you struggle with literature make sure to include "ebooks" and similar things to your always block list
even if you put down the keywords we all know to put down, you can still find unblocked stuff on an ebook search
