I was just informed that I need a cataract operation in my right eye - after having one in my left eye about three years ago. I'm kind of young for cataracts, but, as my doctor said, "It happens sometimes." It really is an amazing procedure - in less than an hour, the old lens is removed and an artificial lens is inserted into the eye, leading to a great improvement in vision. At the time of my first operation I thought that, after Hashem has done me such a chesed in giving me in effect a new eye, that I certainly shouldn't misuse that gift by looking at things He doesn't want me to. (Of course, the natural eye is orders of magnitude more amazing than a cataract operation, which only, after all, replaces a small portion of the eye. However, since we are used to natural eyes it somehow seems like less of a big deal). Well, that resolution didn't hold up so well (that's why I'm here). But I thought that the fact that I found out about the need for the new operation just about a week after starting on my 90-day journey, probably is not a coincidence. I hope that this time, after the operation b'Ezras Hashem is successfully completed, my new lens will stay pure forever!!!
