I can't see the video now but I read the transcript. It's kind of scary, actually. I have a friend who had a dream several years ago in which the Angel of Death was coming for him and he described the angel almost exactly like this. Tall, covered in a black shroud. Creepy stuff.

Is this the video  one who see angels when he dies or they go through his whole life with all his aviros and mitzvohs? Can't it be down loaded so everyone can see it? Whats so good about J-net if they block even good things! They block many articles here too!

I too had a dream about gehenom  it was like these children angels were laughing  at me on the outside and sad on the inside .They would be  forcing me to have assorts of indecent pleasures with them and I would try to commit suicide to leave the pain and I couldn't run away. I asked Hashem to help me in the dream they then stopped but told me I had 2 weeks left... I only started recovery months after that...

Okaaayyy....

So I watched the whole thing last night. I'm not really taken by these light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel type of stories. For all we know, he could have made the whole thing up or just had a very vivid dream. You just have to take his word for it if you really want to believe all that. For me, there are more concrete and down to earth, less heeby-jeeby-appeal-to-your-emotions type of reasons to avoid my addiction. And, as you'll see if you read my main thread, it has nothing at all to do with religion, unlike this campfire story of a video.
But if it floats your boat, then have at it.

I only watched a few minutes here and there, but he would have to be an exceptional actor to have made this up.  Still, although this kind of thing can give additional Chizuk (to some people), it will not, by itself, convince anyone to change either his behavior or beliefs.

Bruce has a good point.

Like we discussed in the past, Hashem wants that we will always be able to say "I don't buy it". Otherwise there would be no free choice - and that would go against the Torah itself. So either buy it, or don't.

If it floats your boat - why not? But as Bruce said, he has more than enough reasons to stop these behaviors (as we brought in Chizuk e-mail #493), even without tying in religion...

After all, do the alcoholics of AA come there because drinking alcohol is forbidden? NO! They just want to get their LIVES BACK.

But of course, for believing Jews, (even if this video happens to be made up) we still do believe that something along the lines of what he describes there may happen to us if we don't do teshuvah. So if that can be an extra push to help you get into recovery, why not?

BUT SEE PRINCIPLE #10 of the ATTITUDE HANDBOOK. Fear of heaven alone will NOT stop an addiction!! Even Rav Amram the head of the Chassidim couldn't do it with his fear of heaven alone! He needed MORE than that!
