Bad news - I have had to remove K9 from my mac because it clashes with Snow Leopard (10.6) and wouldn't allow photo upload which I need to put stuff on eBay.

Now I am unprotected.

Has anyone used Net Nanny?

I basically want to block 1. porn and 2. proxy avoidance. Nothing else. And obviously don't want the program to slow down my internet connection or to interfere with other things running.

thanks for any help in advance

Mac has got a filter built into its operating system. Why don't you go ahead and set it up. It won't interfere with anything.

Ah I think you mean Parental Controls?

This works only for new accounts you set up. They don't assume there are many people like us who want to regulate the internet use of OURSELVES!!! They think of such things as being to stop children having access.

If your wife would be willing to take over the administrator account, there's a plethora of features that Mac offers in their parental controls you'd be able to benefit from. Aside for using it to set restrictions on your web access, you can also determine which programs can be run and during which hours. Most of all, you can restrict access to your account - or to the internet - during all odd hours of the night. This is one way to make sure you only use the internet when there is company. A very responsible thing for an internet addict to do.

you can try opendns.org. it is free and runs in the background and doesn't seem to slow things much. I would not advise using it as your only protection because it seems to not block some objectional material. I had been using it for a while because of program stability issues with k9 on my mac, but now i have gone back to k9 because it seems to have been fixed and it works (as a filter) better than opendns.org.
just my 2 cents

in the end I went back to K9 because I discovered that there is a K9 for Mac beta which addresses the photo uploading issues I was having.

So far, so good b''H
