The Rosh Yeshiva Rav Feldman, Shlita, in his Sefer on Shalom Bayis, translates this Gemara as follows: "Descend a step and marry a woman."
The River, the Kettle, and the Bird p. 31.
Rashi on Yevamos 63a (5 lines up) explains the Gemara as follows: "Don't marry a woman who is more Chashuv than you, lest she not accept you."
The Rosh Yeshiva explains as follows: "It is interesting to note that not only do the Sages enjoin us to ignore faults in a wife, they even consider slight faults to be an assest in marriage. [At this point, the Rosh Yeshiva cites this Gemara]. Because a husband is relentlessly driven by his male ego, he will often be tempted to prove his superiority, a tendency which might easily trigger domestic strife. A wife with a fault lessens this temptation. Being married to a woman perceived to be less 'perfect' than oneself is, thus, ironically, not undesirable. Though his perception may be erroneous, at the very least, it feeds his ego needs."
