For those who see that their posts have been modified - I just changed the name of the thread to "GYE Chat."

I agree in theory with a chat room (and would partake in donations if really serious) BUT:
One of the good things about this site is that whatever is written is categorized and stored thereby allowing new/old users to read through material that can be very helpful. Chat rooms would take all that away.

That is an interesting point . There is no end to what can be stored here. Do you think if we have a Chat we will not post here anymore. I don't think so. Suppose some one needs help right away. Chat room can help that induividial. There is alot one can learn from another in a live room much more then reading old information. This is live people after all!!! So much can come out of it!

Good news. Someone is helping us find and install some chat room modules that will work TOGETHER with the forum, be"h.

Stay tuned.

Great news!

Hey Rav Guard, you have been kind of quiet lately. You been on the woman's forum or what?

i personally think that a (totally private frum only gye based )chat room would help me a lot . i feel it would have  saved me from my last fall if i would have had some "real time" help  ,on the spot. i should have called someone but  i don't feel enuf trust yet . a chat would change that .

That's awesome news, Guard!! I know I sent you that PM the other day about chat rooms but that was before I had seen these threads. Clearly it's something the people want and need.

I think people are also forgetting that these chat rooms can be used for daily 12-step meetings. That would be huge!!

How do you use a chat room for a 12 step meeting?

There are actually a number of chat rooms on IRC that are set up for this very purpose.

You have set times for meetings... let's say 6.30am, 3.30pm, and 7pm EST daily... and there is a chairman. People who want to share (purely optional) can indicate they want to do so and the others remain silent as that person talks about how they are doing or what they are struggling with... etc. It can be a great soundboard for your concerns. You can really unload.

See this post for an example: rehab-my-site.com/guardureyes/forum/index.php?topic=575.0

When you say "others remain silent" do you mean this is a "talking" chat, or just a "typing" chat?

Typing chat. I mean that others don't interrupt when someone is sharing.

There's gotta be some way to record and store all the chats, so that anyone can look through them later.
R' Guard is this an option?

In the chat program that we're considering there is the ability to keep a record of all past chat sessions.
