I don't think what we think of the story makes much of a difference, Yeshayhu.
The part of the story that means the most to me is what YOU whispered through clenched teeth....
Please forgive me, my friend. You know, instantly and with great clarity, what you don't want to do any more. But you also know what you also do want to do sometimes.... And it's hard to reconcile the two perspectives....
So you are asking us what we think, about how one should view the story philosophically. But I think you are really asking what does this experience mean, existentially. Like Yeravam, you are speaking with Hashem, after He has grabbed you by the shirtfront. And you DO want the relationship with Him, but maybe only on the terms of a poor sinner.... that's what I think you're not sure about. That hurts.
I think I feel some of the pain. Forgive me, but I'm feeling that maybe the arm slipping back in has brought out the hurt in a different way...
