Work Laptops, need practical advise 25 Dec 2013 08:49 #225572

I need some serious advice about how to deal with work laptops. I finally wised up that my home computer needs protection and i have a filter which has saved me when I felt weak (Boruch Hashem my wife has the password, not me), but I don't know what to do about my work laptop, and unfortunately I have looked at inappropriate material. I have the following issues:

1. Installing tracking software on my computer is probably not allowed.
2. Installing anything which filters my search results will most likely require an explanation on my part to the company. As we can use laptops for personal use beyond work hours, I'm worried how the company will view this request. If I were a Goy in the company I'd simply say, "if you don't want to look, then don't look; as for your kids, they're NOT allowed to use your laptop anyways."
3. Another sin of mine includes wasting time during work hours. I know this is stealing and I've been much better at this as I thankfully have more work to do now, but as I haven't been perfect in the past, and unfortunately am still not perfect, I don't want to set off red flags to the company that I have been wasting time. I especially don't want them potentially viewing what I have already and risk my job over it.

For all future employment, I believe the best thing to do is to request this when I first join a company; if I can explain why I don't shake women's hands, I can explain the need for a filter. However as I have not requested this yet and have worked for the company over a year I need advise on how to download software which will keep me safe and not set off red flags to the company. Or I need advise on how to broach this topic with my company's IT without setting off red flags.

PLEASE HELP!

How would they find out if you put a filter? If you can take it home, its practically temporarily yours. And if that is not they rule, just tell them that according to
Jewish Law it is assur to be unblocked. You could tell them the reason that its because of the option of wasting time, which you are trying to stop ( If you waste a bit of time kal Va'chomer the goy wastes times) and for the reason of shmutz, which is a preventative measure.Tell if you think this is good.
