Elokai, Neshoma Shenosata Bi Tehorah Hi - Hashem, the soul you placed in me is pure.
The essence of every Jew is a pure soul that strives to have a connection with Hashem. As we go through life and do things here and there that we shouldn't be doing, that connection gets weaker and weaker, like dirt that covers a diamond. However, we need to remember that our ESSENCE is that diamond, that pure neshoma. Therefore, when I'm doing the right thing - davening, learning Torah, doing mitzvos - that's the REAL me talking. It's the other stuff, the dirt that's not real and needs to be gotten rid of.
It says in the seforim that a Jew does not sin unless a spirit of foolishness temporarily blinds him. For some of us, that happens more frequently than for others.
Still we need to keep in mind which is the REAL us - the part of us that wants to be closer to Hashem. The fact that we come to a place like this in an attempt to clean off the shmutz is proof of who we really are.
