I'm pretty sure someone else also posted about this idea not too long ago and I looked for that post, but couldn't remember who posted it and where. I think it might have been Habib.
Anyway, this has also been on my mind as many a time when I am on the forum it is very quiet and I am aware that others have had similar experiences. People have at times cried out for help with little to no response. B"H, today I was privy to a strong response and feel that now is a good time to push for this idea. I have been thinking about starting this topic for a few days now.
First, a little idea about the above pasuk. A few years back, when I was still in yeshiva, a friend pointed out in his siddur a perush that was brought on this pasuk. I thought then that it was a beautiful idea and remember it quite clearly. I also happen to have since bought the same siddur and have it open in front of me. The siddur is quoting from the Ibn Ezra and the Meiri. They say that the pasuk is telling s that my nefesh is yearning for HKB"H more than the guards doing the night shift are yearning for the morning, so that they may sleep. And it says shomrim laboker twice, because they are strengthening their nefashos and comforting their hearts with the knowledge that in the morning they will sleep.
I know that some of you may work through the night or even have trouble sleeping and may be able to relate to this. I can tell you, personally, as someone who has been a shomer at night, all night long, the yearning for the morning to come is great. And the weariness and tiredness is great. Our yearning for HKB"H is greater.
So, maybe we can help each other out? We are mechazek each other on a regular basis, but maybe we can be more efficient? I'm not sure we have to wait for the phone lines to be working. I am also not sure if the phone will be easier. Maybe OTR's idea can work?
What I was thinking is to split the day into hour slots and there will always be TWO people on "shmirah". This way, they are also there for each other. Let's try to get around the clock. I think there might just be enough of us to do it.
We can base it off Israeli time? Just sign up... We'll see if we can do this!
