Does this mean that I can block Picasa web albums etc. with K9? Then get the filter gabbai to learn this and do it for me!! (but will my gmail work?)

Thank you for posting that link. I learned some important things about K9 I otherwise wouldn't have known.

To Alex Eliezer it was my pleasure, I have spent a long time using K9 and am happy to help others use it properly.

At Jewish Jew, whether you have the ability to block Picasa etc will depend on the level of stringency that you want. I employ a method that blocks Google itself and therefore my Picasa is 95% blocked! To get round the Gmail problem I use Outlook which isnt browser dependent so it works fine. There are more aspects to K9 that people have to know, I have never met the filter Gabbai (i am a new user) but i am willing to share my knowledge!

Have a nice day!

Don't know about google voice, but if you want to block google searches but be able to use gmail you can whitelist the following sites:

mail.google.com
accounts.google.com

THAT'S GREAT! I have been wondering how to do this.

How do you block Google searches but allow Google Docs and Google Drive?

If you have blocked the Search Engine category, it will not help to white list mail.google.com. Unless you whitelist the whole google.com. I tend to block the Search Engine category, and use Outlook as email. Even if you whitelist Google, it is far more safe when whitelistes then when the catergoy of Search Engine is open!

Hmmm... It works for me. I have one laptop at home that I locked down really tight cuz my kids use it sometimes. I blocked just about all the categories and whitelisted a dozen or so sites. I 'm pretty sure that all I had to open for gmail were the urls I mentioned, and gmail.com. I don't have that machine available right now to check though.

Whether gmail will work depends on what ports happen to be open at that time. K9 is not consistent with this unfortunately.
