Ideas anyone? 21 Feb 2012 14:48 #133460

I work, I learn, I spend time with my wife, kids and family, I enjoy seeing friends on Shabbos, I give plenty of tzedokoh, I help people with baal teshuvah backgrounds once in a while.

But I feel unfulfilled. I feel that this is not what I was created for. I feel that to feel fulfilment I have to do something huge. Something like really knowing all of Shas, making millions of dollars, changing the world, or even climbing a mountain. But everything I do in my life is not giving me this fulfillment. I make good income, but its not millions, I learn, but its not around-the-clock. I help people, but its not in a huge life-saving way.

Any ideas on finding fulfillment in life?

THE QUESTION.
For me, there is no one answer.  i do many things that are fulfilling in an effort to fill my "G-D hole", realizing that any one thing i do has many more positive repercussions than i will ever know about.  See Nefesh Hachaim.  It is also the same R"L for the negative i do.

There is a story told of a boy helping a man lost in the fog of London.  The man wanted to pay the boy for his trouble and the boy refused.  The man later founded an organization that to date has served millions of people based on the lesson he learned from that boy.  The boy probably never thought of his good deed in any meaningful way but the results were/are awesome to consider.

Mr. Holy Waters shlita
i suggest that the answer or answers to your question will not be suggested by others.
It should come from you. Use the time that you would have used for the bad stuff, use it to think about finding answers to your question. use the energy that you would have normally used to feed this monster to create something beautiful. You have the answers inside of you, because only you really know what you can accomplish. Get to know yourself and make it happen!

mayim,
your question is awesome.

chaimyakov and GZM are right on the mark too, imho.
i would add two ideas.
one is to learn Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh (vol. 1). second would be to check out Where Earth and Heaven Kiss by Rabbi Ozer Bergman.

ZemirosShabbos wrote on 26 Sep 2011 16:11:

In the first chelek of Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh he brings a vort from Rav Povarsky from Ponovezh. Chazal say that even reshoim are melayim mitzvos kerimon. even sinners are full of miztvos like a pomegranate. Why are they called sinners if they have so many mitzvos?

He answers, a pomegranate is unique in that it has many seeds and the edible flesh surrounds each seed individually. different than an apple which is a unit of mostly edible flesh with a small area with seeds. so too, the reshoim DO a lot of mitzvos, they may even learn and daven, put on tefilin, tzitzis, shofar lulav etc., but they are all individual acts and not part of a concerted effort and enterprise. Torah and mitzvos are meant to all lead to the RBSO. they are all details of a master-plan. not individual acts that may done by rote. so even if the outer trappings are all there, the heart, the relationship is missing.
