Are there any plans for GYE to release free internet filtering programs? If it was made as a FOSS, I'm sure there would be a huge amount of participants.

I was thinking of:
A GYE DNS server, which would do DNS level filtering of websites. This would be one simple way to do a mass amount of filtering, at a basic level, which would help prevent users from accidentally visiting a site known as being bad. A combination of blacklist + matching for keywords + whitelist would probably be able to block a huge amount of problematic websites.

A local DNS proxy, which would be similar to the GYE DNS server, for those that wouldn't have that level of control over their router.

A browser plugin (chrome, FF, IE) which would work in the same manner as a Bayesian spam filter, that if it saw certain words mentioned as a certain proportion of the total words, block the page. It would also have a global list of blocked sites, perhaps operating in the same manner as Adblock Plus, with a filter list of blocked sites, supporting wildcards.

I'm not sure I understand the technical terms, but if I understand correctly, you're suggesting we develop our own filtering system at the server level. This would be a huge undertaking and I don't see any reason to reinvent the wheel when we already have huge frum companies like theJnet.com and koshernet.com in the U.S - and Rimon (www.neto.net.il) and nettzach.com in Israel...

But you sound like someone who knows a lot about filtering. Maybe you can join our filter team? They help people with installing filters, save the password for them, research all the best solutions available out there, etc...

First of all thank you for your nice ideas!!

just let you know, there are so many filtering company's out there already for PC's and for Mobile devices.
talking about DNS:  OpenDNS , dyn.com and more.. are free! (the DNS ones are server based).
DNS by it self is not the best selution, becouse the DNS IP can be changed without a password.
if its installed on the Router then it can be rest as well. it can only be good if we are talking about a server room or a router that's locked in a closet.
so a combo of server based and client based would work best.
asking me, i think it would be a waste of money for GYE inventing filters. don't forget that there is out there 'Lots' of programmers and developers working constantly on new filtering options...

guardureyes: Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to do everything I needed to do last week, and as such, I am unwilling to take on new responsibilities. My largest complaint from the larger providers is that they charge a significant premium for their services, which are either unduly restrictive, and (I feel) could be bypassed by anyone who is attempting to.

good laugh: I wasn't aware that OpenDNS had that. I'll set that up on my own machine. Thanks for the recommendations.

One more thing - I seemed to notice a conspicuous lack of informational sticky threads. Are there any plans to put some in? It seems a little excessive to force every user (and tzvi aryeh) to have to directly communicate for the newest updates, instead of simply viewing a thread. Information is only as useful if it is organized.
