I feel really stupid.  Even more than my yeizer to see p*rn on the internet, was this curiousity to see if the filter really works.

It's certainly an improvement, but it's not full-proof.

This should probably be step #1 on the instructions for installing a filter:  Now, despite all your work, you're going to experience a huge yeitzer hara to see if the filter really works.  If your yeitzer's free reign on the internet are really over.

You're right, but it's still worth having a filter - you no longer have unfettered access to the Internet, which is an unspeakable Nisayon.

Plus, everytime you discover loopholes in the filter, either by accident or intentionally, you must close these loopholes as soon as possible (e.g. by blacklisting the offending websites and/or by blocking certain search terms).  Over time, the filter will become more and more difficult to get around.  It may never be foolproof, but it's far better than unfettered Internet access.

...upon further thought, I think the problem was more a feeling of:  Oh, now that I have a filter I'm all set.

Which is also general yeitzer.  Whenever this feeling comes along, Oh, I've been clean for so long already... I'm all set!  You have to get rid of it right away, otherwise a fall is usually soon to follow.

I recently installed the k9 web filter and think that it works really well.  I have tried other filters in the past, but was always able to find loopholes.  k9 is the best I have seen so far.

+ it is free!

Shomer,

I think I am perhaps more creative than you are.

My wife and I just spent an hour coming up with all sorts of key words to add to the K9 filter system to make sure I don't have any access to indecent images.

And my wife is still skeptical.  She gives me a two week trial period and if it doesn't work she wants to get rid of the internet.

You have a good wife.

Yes, K9 needs to be tweaked, and you need to close loopholes as they come up (try not to look for them).  Also, no filter is perfect, so you will still need to work on yourself.

Eye.nonymous You have a good wife b'h who understands. So who has the password to K9? I try making a password which i can't remember like numbers and codes and hide it at home. I have my computer turn off at a certain time. Then when i'm lusting and i want the codes. I call my wife and she gives it to me (rather silly). She said to me once. I know you will be  till 10:00 in the office since i gave you the code. I think she may think of something what i do there but never really tells me more.

My wife has the code.  The sole purpose we have this filter is so that I shouldn't see indecent images.  I wouldn't ask her for the code, and she wouldn't give it to me if I did.  It would be the same as asking directly for her permission to look at indecent pictures.
