Women struggle, too

E.F. writes:

You need to add much more info on your website for women who abuse themselves on the Internet.

I am recently divorced, and my son is now without his mother because she became addicted to the Internet and degraded herself daily by talking to men online all day every day for over one year. It is not only men that have this problem.

GYE Responds:

Dear E.F.,

Yes, we know that women have this problem, as well.

You should know that men and women are totally separated on our site. Only members, who we verify as females, can see the female sections of the forums and chat-rooms. That is why you don't see it.

About 1 out of 4 of our members are women. We have many resources for them as well, see this page: https://guardyoureyes.com/resources/women Perhaps, your wife could be helped (if she is willing) by being directed to this link.

And don't forget, too, that you and your son need and deserve help and support. On our site, we offer resources for spouses. You may also look up live support groups, like S-Anon or CoDA.

A woman wrote to us, asking for chizuk in face of a challenge she was facing. She wrote:

A family friend from overseas called me and asked if we can meet up. I don't know if I ever told you about this family "friend" but that's basically how every SA issue that I have started. We set a time and place for 7:45. I don't know why I agreed, I kind of just went along with it. I'm going to have to just not show up, but I need chizzuk to stay strong until the next morning. I KNOW I can't go. This has been on my mind all Tisha b'av. But the problem is that I also know that I'm not set on NOT going.

I'll just daven that Hashem helps me do the right thing. I wish I had another obligation or place I NEED to be tomorrow at that time. IY"H, Hashem will help me. B"H, I have a good number of weeks behind me, I've been making excellent progress. I don't want to get back into a rut, but ..... I don't trust myself.

We responded:

B'derech she'odom roitze...

The Shmuz and GYE - a collaborative effort

Rabbi Shafier from theshmuz.com began an initiative with Guard Your Eyes to put the full 13 part Fight Series called The Fight onto CDs in MP3 format.

Guard Your Eyes and The Shmuz have collaborated to print thousands of copies of the CD's and our objective is to distribute it wisely for free. In the past, we've put cds in various places such as shuls, pizza stores, grocery stores where people can take them. We would like to do the same with this cd.

If you have a little bit of time and would like to help, please contact Rabbi Shafier at rebbe@theshmuz.com or Mrs. Coleman at dassy@theshmuz.com and we'll gladly send you out the cds with a holder and then you can put it wherever you feel is appropriate. This is a very easy way of making a huge difference!

Q & A for Women Strugglers
Do you think you may have a porn addiction?

Do you have a problem with obsessive and compulsive porn use? Have you seriously tried the tools on GYE and feel that you are not getting better? Maybe it’s time to consider joining a 12-Step program.

Porn Anonymous (PA)
If you’re compulsively acting-out with pornography and masturbation we suggest you explore joining Porn Anonymous (PA). If you need help deciding whether to join PA, call Michael at 347-699-2368, or email help@pornanonymous.org to schedule a time to talk. For more information visit pornanonymous.org (Hebrew: p-a.org.il / Yiddish: pa-yid.org).

Sexaholics Anonymous (SA)
If your compulsive acting-out has progressed beyond the screen (with other people, paid sexual services, etc.) we suggest you explore joining Sexaholics Anonymous (SA). To figure out if SA is for you, call Dov at 917-414-8205, or email Dov at dov@guardyoureyes.org to schedule a time to talk. For more information visit www.sa.org.
