An attempt to understand the mysteries of the Cholint thread started by our dear Rebbe Bardichev, may his light shine always.

Can it be that the Rebbe is simply interested in the intricacies of this classic jewish food? can it be a simple recipe-sharing forum? can it be on par with chocolate-chip cookies recipe's and marinated roadkill secrets?

Perish the thought.

Here is the thesis.

The weekdays are called 'chol'. Sand is called 'chol'. Sefarim says that the connection is because during the week we lack inner and outer unity, just as sand is myriad small particles. Shabbos is about unity, raza de'echad. Every jew, no matter who where or what, has a certain intrinsic and inviolate value, a precious segulah, an ahava mesuteres, a hidden love of Hashem (Tanya).

At bo'ee beshalom we say 'toch emunai am segulah', we are fortunate to enter shabbos in the company of other jews, who are 'emunai am segulah', meaning each individual would give his life for yichud Hashem, whether they are aware of it or not.

In poskim it says that someone who does not eat warm food on shabbos is of questionable status and is cause for inquiry, as we may suspect them of being of the followers of those who did not accept the Oral Torah. Inversely, those who do eat warm food (=cholint) on shabbos are affirming and repeating their belief and value of this truth.

So if someone's bottom line is his cholint, so be it, he is a precious Jew.

in case last week's cholint kavanos were too heavy here are some simpler ones

some famous person asked a famous mountain climber why he climbs Mt.Everest to which he responded "because it's there"

so too, why do we eat cholent? because it's good
