The 'Tchalmer (Yerushalmi) Yidden actually say "Tchunt" (no 'l').

Lot's of them haven't even heard of barley in chulent. I actually heard from a guy who came back from a hachnosas kallah trip to America and told his wife that in Boro Park people put 'ferfel' in the 'chunt' and it's really geshmak. Unfortunately it wasn't really matzliach (I didn't taste it, so I don't know). My heilige Rebbitzen heard the story, and immediately grasped what the guy meant... and the neaxt week the guy got what he asked for: A Yerushalmi 'chunt' with Boro Parker 'ferfel'. The Rebbitzen is great at restoring Sholom Bayis (at least in other homes, in my home it seems that it's my responsibility...after all -she's perfect, if there was some misunderstanding...mistama it was my fault)!

I'll never forget the time I told one of these guys that where I come from Lukshen Kugel is white! They were astounded -I told them that what they call 'lukshen kugel' we call 'Yerushalmi Kugel'.

And don't forget the pickle...

See that's one of the differences between Israeli beans and American beans....

The Israeli beans have these little pebbles that sneak into the packages, that give a distinct flavor to the chulent which you can't find anywhere else.

Ubber Rebbe... They don't have Unger's chulent mix in Machaneh Yehudah... Try Har Nof, Gush-80, or Sorotzkin, if you won't find any in the Makolet -I'm sure your neighbors might have an extra bag...
