Um, mom? It might help to say that this is Uri's post... I was kind of wondering what you were doing inside the circle of chassidishe bochurim....
Wednesday night, the last night of chol hamoed, the last night of simchas beis hashoevas.
The streets of mea shearim were packed with excited bochurim of all shapes and colors.
I was in a few Shul's that night.
But, in my mind, nothing compared to the Breslov Shul.
The second I walked in,i was absorbed into the tremendous energy that permeated every corner of that beautiful bais medrash.
Chassidish bochurim were dancing like madmen, peyos swinging like there's no tommorow.
The older chassidim were dancing in the middle with this look of ecstasy on their faces.
Every time the circle stepped in the room shook.
The intensity of the yidden there was clearly visible.
And the music....
A beautiful melody with violin and guitar and keyboard had me lost immediately.
I joined the dancing, closed my eyes, and rode the wave of love in the room.
After a while of dancing, I stepped back, feeling better than I had in so long, and wondered:
What is this passion?Where is it coming from?
I have rarely, if ever, seen this amount of energy and passion in anybody.
What is it?
Perek 47 of Tehillim
"All you nations, join hands - sound the shofar to Hashem with a cry of joy!"
"Make music for Hashem, make music, make music for our King, make music!"
"For G-d is King of all the earth, make music, O enlightened ones!"
"He shall lead nations under us and kingdoms beneath our feet. He will choose our heritage for us, the pride of Yackov that He loves, forever!"
Keep in mind that this follows perek 46,which is all about Hashem being our fortress and our security.
I have written this in relation to Succos before.
Succos to me is a reminder that we live in Hashem's shelter all year round.
That's why Succos is such a happy holiday.
Because we understand that there is nothing to be afraid of in this world.
We don't need to be on guard.
Just relax.
Let G-d do His thing.
He loves us and is more protective and watchful of us than any parent could ever be.
He will not let anything hurt us.
And that, my friends, explains the vast amount of love filling the room that night.
We were secure in Hashem.
We were secure in us being a nation united.
We were secure in love.
And we let go.
And the love, that love that we are always scared of just letting come out, came poring out in waves.
When we are insecure, we shut down our emotions.
That includes fear,anxiety,sadness.
But it also includes love,happiness,comfort,serenity.
Is it worth it?
Why shut down?
Nothing to fear.
G-d is here!
A Great Shabbos to all my beautiful friends
