Using just real first names is generally fine, unless you have a very unique name. Mother's names, date of birth, etc... should be avoided.

i second lionking's words and will add to emphasize the point that i know of someone from this site who received a blackmail threat due to making a phone contact before ensuring that the person was safe. do not share numbers and start shmoozing comfortably with just anyone. it cud be that i initially stumbled upon those that were bh safe, but since then i usually check with a trusted gye member to affirm that a particular username is ok. ya cant go nuts over this but the internet is def. not a happy go lucky playground, to put it mildly.
