As part of my graduate and post graduate studies in clinical psychology I have received training in treating a variety of addictions including sexual addiction and lust addiction. In addition, I have expertise in treating sexual disorders and infertility. I began my work in treating patients who suffer from addiction at a residential treatment center for addicts in Los Angeles, in 1975.
I have worked for many years with the Orthodox communities - both in Los Angeles and in Israel. I am comfortable working with members of the Haredi, Sfaradi, Ashkenazi , Yishivish, and Hassidic communities, as well as Religious, and Baalei Teshuvah, and Hozer b’tshuva, as well as others – wherever they may be on their spiritual path in life. I have successfully treated community leaders and Rebbeim – who are particularly concerned about confidentiality. I also have extensive experience in working with couples from mixed backgrounds.
SSA Consultant & Therapist
I provide intensive, deep, caring, completely confidential, short term therapy. I help my patients (adults, children, couples, spouses, families) achieve their therapeutic goals as effectively, efficiently, quickly and comfortably as possible. Working in partnership, we identify and understand the real issues and source of their difficulties; eliminate and correct harmful, self-destructive patterns and automatic reactions (behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and mind-body states); heal inner pain; discover and eliminate the secondary gain issues (the hidden benefits of the symptom) that keep people unconsciously stuck and helpless in resolving their problem; increase self-control; learn to relate to oneself with love, respect, and Kedusha; and learn to easily create positive and fulfilling inner experience. The goal is not just to eliminate the negatives, but to feel, be, and live healthfully! Not as an actor – but for real!
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Hypnosis, NLP, Family Systems, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, and Expressive Arts therapies, as well as Torah values and insights. A specific treatment strategy is developed for each individual patient, and of course, I work in accordance with Halacha.
As a psychologist who is recognized as an expert in the field of hypnosis for almost thirty years (see my CV), I recommend the use of hypnosis (although is not necessary). My patients who use hypnosis and self-hypnosis (which I teach) learn to more easily and quickly accomplish their therapy goals.
My use of hypnosis is not just giving suggestions, and is certainly not to control patients - it is to teach them how to be more self-aware and have greater positive healthy influence upon themselves. The successful treatment of addiction is often best accomplished by an integration of interventions including: individual therapy, family support, 12 step program, spiritual counseling, and when appropriate family therapy. I help each patient with the integration of their treatment strategies.

A detailed description of my therapeutic work is beyond the scope of this page. However, I will state briefly how I work. First, I take an integrative approach in my relating with each individual client. That means I see each client as a person with a body, mind, heart, and soul. I relate with each client as such, and ask that my clients relate to themselves in that way, as well. I take a very practical, goal oriented, problem solving approach, creating specific strategies to help my clients achieve their varied goals - therapeutic, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual, social, familial, professional, and other life goals.I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches and tools, including: CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), Hypnotherapy, Gestalt, psychodynamic, family systems, expressive arts, and others.
I help my clients to be healthfully and highly functioning, in a positive and peaceful integrative manner, in relationship to who they are in the cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of who they are. I integrate the practical behavioral and cognitive with the inner feelings of the heart and spirit.
I am a specialist in clinical and medical hypnosis for more than thirty years, and I certainly recommend the proper effective healing use of hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis as part of treatment, when appropriate for my clients. (Sometimes the use of hypnosis is contra-indicated, and sometimes a particular client may not want to use hypnosis – and that is fine.). (For additional information regarding my use of hypnosis please refer to the articles that I have written in Hebrew and English, in Medical Journals and elsewhere, and on my web site.)
My work requires a positive, mutually respectful client-therapist partnership. That means, I work very hard to help my clients, but I do not do the work for them. We work together in solving problems, healing, and achieving goals. I help my clients connect with the deep truth and understanding that resides within them. I help my clients to evaluate things clearly and honestly, and to make good healthy decisions regarding their lives.
Halachic and Spiritual Considerations. Firstly, my work as a therapist is in accordance with Halacha. I consult poskim, and advise my clients to consult with their posek when needed. In my own life, G-d is essential. As a psychologist my relationship to Hashem and my learning and understanding of Torah and DivreiChazal are utilized in my work. I suggest to my clients, where ever they happen to be on their path of spirituality, to value and work towards being in harmony with Hashem and Torah values.
