Dr. Leedes believes that fantasy is the mechanism by which sex addiction is triggered. We cannot ignore the meaning of each individual’s fantasy. Therein lays the metaphor to the underlying issue. Sex Addiction is the symptom; the problem is related to a person’s attempt to transcend an intolerably felt reality because of negative core beliefs about him/herself and negative core world views. These issues stem from childhood. The first part of treatment uses a cognitive behavioral approach. Once the behavior is terminated, a psychodynamic approach is utilized. Sex Addicts are viewed as discouraged people in need of encouragement and this is at the heart of treatment. Dr. Leedes has written specific articles on treating sex addiction and he can mail you his seminal work in order for you to understand the specifics of his methodology. He is specifically recommend by Rabbi Doctor Abraham Twersky.
