Sober 4 Months

By the.guard

I've been suffering from my addiction ever since I can remember and a friend mentioned GYE in passing so I decided to have a look. That was 5 months ago. I am now after 4 months of live groups and intense therapy, coupled with a lot of scouring GYE forums, articles, shiurim and whatever I can get my hands upon. So far, with great thanks to Hashem and the GYE support, I have been sober for close to four months bli ayin hara.

Near-Death Experience

P.O.R sent us the following e-mail:

Attached is a translation I did about 10-12 years ago of an account of a near death experience by a Yerushalmi Toldos Aharon woman, which is quite hair-raising. Even though it's intended primarily for women, men have a lot to learn from it as well. It's helped me enormously in the few weeks since I started reading it.

For a long time she was going around giving talks to women; I don't know if she still is, but I could probably find out. I could also send you a scan of the original Hebrew (though that might be a translation from an original Yiddish).

Drowned in Water Rather than in Lust

By GYE

Tisha Be'av is a day to remember the shiploads of young men and women that were shipped off to Rome after the Churban to be used in "human trafficking", but instead of allowing their bodies to be defiled, they gathered together and jumped into the sea, drowning Al Kiddush Hashem. Let us remember their sacrifice to stay pure, to completely give up their bodies to Hashem rather than let themselves be defiled. When we feel like lust is attempting to drown us, we should remember these martyrs who preferred to drown in water rather than become slaves to lust.

Earlier this week, news broke that Jared Fogle, the well-known spokesman for Subway, was at the center of an FBI investigation. No details have been confirmed at this time, but many speculate that the investigation is related to the recent arrest of an executive of the Jared Foundation on child pornography charges. (Fogle himself has not been arrested or charged with a crime.)

This news comes on the heels of the release of court documents in which veteran comedian Bill Cosby admitted to giving women sedatives in the pursuit of sex. And, similar shocking revelations have come to light in the past year pertaining to Stephen Collins from the popular 90s TV show 7th Heaven, and to Tiger Woods, who is rumored to have relapsed into his sexual addiction by cheating on girlfriend Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Vonn.

When these stories come to light, the same questions begin to appear on social media sites, in our offices, and around our dinner tables: “What is wrong with these men? How could they do these things? And, why can’t they stop?”
