A Poem from the Depth

obormottel Monday, 14 December 2015

It's the last night of chanuka
flickering candles
burning bright
dancing flames
reaching upwards
ever higher
meant to reflect
the soul that resides
within each jew
where's the key
to this soul
that's here
locked
this time
holiness
aspiration
reflected
within the candles
within the eyes
choosing
at this time
drawing
lines
immutable
to be uncrossed
ever again
this time
choosing
the rest of the year
sealing
a conclusion
what's been until now
doesn't have to be further
depends on now
the rest of the year
it's too great
a responsibility
when i can't even
pray
in any way
but it's not always prayers
that's the choice
but the choices
in and of themselves
that have the power
the candles flicker
burning bright
reaching higher
flickering
higher and higher
reflecting
our hearts
our souls
our destinations
