New Chizuk Email Schedule

Dear GYE Family!

I hope you've been enjoying the Chizuk emails. It is our pleasure to send them out to inspire and empower you. All of us at GYE adminsitration thank you for your support, readership, and participation in our network.

Please note, that going forward we are scaling down on the frequency of the Chzuk emails. This move is in response to the changing conditions on the ground. Our readership is dynamic and busy and few have the time to read lengthy emails daily. To accomdoate your busy schedules, dear readers, and without jeopardizing the quality of our message, we will only send out three weekly issues of the Chizuk email, one of them being the Parsha in Recovery.

For a daily boost in chizuk and encoruagment, please subscribe to the Daily Boost by following the information below.

Please don't forget that the best way for daily chizuk is a day-to-day connection to other struggling people. Additionally, if you feel that your struggles have crossed over into porn/sex addiction territory, consider joining a 12-step Recovery fellowship, which will provide you with additional support. To learn more about various options for the 12-step fellowships, see the article at the bottom of this email. Please also note the announcement of the weekly 12-Step phone conference slated to begin on Aug. 5.

With warmest regards for continued recovery,

Mottel.

Give it to keep it

By GYE

In Crown Heights, there was a Jew, Yankel, who owned a bakery. He survived the camps. He once said, “You know why it is that I’m alive today?

I was a kid, just a teenager at the time. We were on the train, in a boxcar, being taken to Auschwitz. Night came and it was freezing, deathly cold, in that boxcar. The Germans would leave the cars on the side of the tracks overnight, sometimes for days on end without any food, and of course, no blankets to keep us warm,” he said.

“Sitting next to me was an older Jew – this beloved elderly Jew - from my hometown I recognized, but I had never seen him like this. He was shivering from head to toe and looked terrible. So I wrapped my arms around him and began rubbing him, to warm him up. I rubbed his arms, his legs, his face, his neck. I begged him to hang on.

All night long; I kept the man warm this way. I was tired, I was freezing cold myself, my fingers were numb, but I didn’t stop rubbing the heat on to this man’s body. Hours and hours went by this way.

Finally, the night passed, morning came, and the sun began to shine. There was some warmth in the cabin, and then I looked around the car to see some of the other Jews in the car. To my horror, all I could see were frozen bodies, and all I could hear was a deathly silence.

Nobody else in that cabin made it through the night – they died from the frost. Only two people survived: the old man and me… The old man survived because somebody kept him warm; I survived because I was warming somebody else…”

When you warm other people’s hearts, you remain warm yourself. When you seek to support, encourage and inspire others; then you discover support, encouragement and inspiration in your own life as well.

Every moment of restraint

By Hashem Help Me

Incredible vort on Megilas Rus.

The Alshich Hakadosh brings that Machlon was zoche that through the "yibum" of Boaz, Machlon's neshama came back in Oved - the grandfather of Dovid Hamelech. And his almanah Rus produced malchus. What zchus did he have? And why not his brother Chilyon - who was "zoche" that his almanah Orpah produced Golyas?!

Explains the Alshich that Machlon initially was omed b'nisayon and did not marry from the bnos moav. However, Chilyon married Orpah right away. Only afterwards did Machlon "cave in." That is hinted to in the words "v'shem ha-sheini Rus." In the zchus of his restraint, albeit temporary, he was zoche to nitzchiyus. We must learn from this that even if chas v'shalom we fall or slip, every moment of restraint is worth much more than we can imagine!

Broke the fence

By GYE

Sefer Chassidim, Siman 148

Three things did the Holy One Blessed be He create in man, ears, eyes and the tongue, and to each one of them he created barriers and a wall to protect them…He put eyelids for the eyes in order to cover them and hide them from looking at something evil. And the man who transgresses and hears sin or if his eyes see sinful things and his tongue speaks evil then the person did not guard what the Master of the World gave him to guard, he broke the fence and about him it is written: "He who breaks a fence will be bitten by a snake" - (Kohelles 10:8)
