The Third Step speaks of willingness.
Willingness puts our hearts and souls into the task at hand. Willingness doesn't get rid of the fears, but it helps us find the courage to work through them.
Willingness doesn't give us the knowledge to solve the problem, but it may give us the energy to leave our isolation and seek out others with the knowledge.
Willingness doesn't do away with ego; it just shows us an alternative to ego.
Willingness is the voice of our Higher Power saying, "I believe in you and want you to do the same."
Willingness is the seed wanting to break through the soil to see the light of day, to be what it is meant to be.
Prayer for the Day
I pray for willingness to do the next right thing. I seek courage, knowledge, the support of others, and my Higher Power's guidance.
Today's Action
I will work to notice how willingness is behind all actions. I will work today to be a willing participant in my own life, and in my own recovery.

What happens to "Frummies" who are gay or transgender? There will always be a percentage of people in any given community who are somehow just born like this and there is no way to change them. Sometimes nature makes a mistake and assigns the incorrect gender to a person, so the poor soul is trapped inside the wrong body! Do these people just live "inside the closet" or do they "come out?" |

In the very depths of our losing and weakness, Hashem still sees us with love - otherwise, how do any of us ever get His help to get clean? True, some out there fear to say this stuff because to them, admitting this fact sounds like it's really OK to do horrible aveiros. Nothing could be farther from the truth. But nobody would ever get the help to do teshuva if Hashem really hated us for doing rotten stuff. And that has to include even the most horrible rotten stuff ever, or it includes nothing at all.
That's why so many of us shrink from taking that actual step into recovery (or teshuva, if you want to see it that way). We say in our hearts, "yeah, yeah, Hashem forgives and treats sinners nicely - but I'm different." or "...not the stuff that I did because I'm a talmid chochom and should have known better, so it's worse!", or "If they saw what I did, they'd never say He still wants me..." And other lies.
He desires us and loves us even while we stomp on His Will, on our families, and on ourselves. And He helps us get right, if we only let Him. |
